How much does it all cost?
From £250 for a simple bespoke design the cost of your site will depend on your requirements.
It is not unusual to expect to pay thousands for shopping cart solutions and often these are based on third party software bought in by the web designers. Brownbearsoftware has its own shopping cart solution which does not have to be integrated into our software it is part of our software. As a result our fees for this kind of development can often be considerably cheaper that many of our competitors.
If you are interested in a quote for your design then please write down as much of your functionality requirements as possible and send it to us on our Contact page. We will come back to you as soon as possible with a brief design plan, an estimate of cost and some suggestions where appropriate - with entirely no obligation on you.

How do I update my site?
A simple few page site containing information and facts about you or your company can have updateable areas that show the main content.
More complex product shopping cart based sites are developed with administrator consoles to allow the dynamic management of products, prices, stock and related functionlity.
As you own the source code you can of course amend site content yourself if you have the relevant programming or scripting skills. Beware though - standard support does not extend to fixing code written by developers other than Brownbear Software staff.

What are the timescales?
As you would imagine this can be from a couple of days for a simple templated static design to several months if you require a full integrated and bespoke software solution.
Generally somewhere in between the two is the norm and the inclusion of a database, e-mail accounts, forums and dynamic content management does not necessarily mean a long delay waiting for development.

When do I pay?
This depends on the size and complexity of the project.
For small to medium sized sites with average functionality (often including straightforward shopping cart funcions) then you pay when the site goes live.
This illustrates the confidence we have in our design and service and the scope of functionality and development skills we have to hand.

Can I design my site?
We can give you a design, development and hosting solution with a very short brief. Often customers do not know precisely what they want and cannot quite see it until a preliminary design is created.
We can work from either a simple evolving remit or you can tell us exaclty what you want - screen shots, graphics, layout - after all you are the customer!

Hidden Extras!
Hidden extras! Of course not!
Having said that all costs are quoted up front based on your proposed requirements.
We will tell you what functionality we believe you require and provide a cost for that whether it be databases, complex coding, system integration or just a simple hosting plan with e-mail accounts included.
Standard support includes basic site changes that do not affect the layout such as occassional text changes and replacement graphics provided by you
If you request more complex functionality we will discuss the options, why it will or will not work as well as how much it will cost.
It is very much our policy to ensure you are completely happy with the proposal and the cost before we even consider requesting payment.

Who owns the source code?
Once you have accepted the web design and paid for the code then you own it.
You can if you so desire take the code and augment it or even take it elsewhere to have other developers re-use it for hosting on your behalf.
This of course does not restrict Brownbear Software from using the templates and functionality that have been used in the development of your site for other clients although obviously anything personal to you will not be re-used in any way.
Images purchased (as part of your development cost price) may not be sold on for any purpose. This is not a licence restriction by Brownbear Software but by the image suppliers themsleves. This is a standard method of image licencing and is only mentioned here to avoid any ambiguity over image and picture licencing.
Of course, if you provide the images, then you either own them or are under licence to the supplier that you purchased them from.
Just one final point - if you attempt to change the code and mess it up you will have to pay extra to have it fixed! Understandably...
